and the saga continues

The ongoing saga of the kennie kat job hunt continues. I will be a subsitute teacher for QA county by friday... woot $75/day jobs. I have applied to no less than 10 more jobs in the past 3 days...only 3 of which are in my field of study. I am still waiting to hear from the one job in DC with the ICAC.

But there is a new twist my friends...

Yesterday I get a call from a firm that works with Judy Diamond- an insurance research firm. I might have an interview with them next week. Pro- in DC. Con- insurance.

But wait there is more...

I get a call today (yes saturday) from the Cadmus Group. THE CADMUS GROUP. One of the leading environmental/energy/health firms in the nation. I applied yesterday (friday) around say 11:30 for the position of Executive Assistant/Resarch analyst. Today at 1pm I get a call for a phone interview to be held on Wednesday. They want someone pronto apparently. What makes the icing on this cake however, is that the CEO pulled my resume for the sheer reason that I went to Hood (see it does come in handy every so often), not because he went there or anything- but because he grew up in Frederick. I'm getting an interview because I know the town that the CEO grew up in and still loves. Odd- but I'll take it. Pro- awesome company. Con- I'll be moving to Mass (just out side of cambridge actually) if I get it.

Boston for St. Pats anyone?

Updates

Though I doubt anyone actually reads this...

An update on the Kenniekat world:

  • Interview on the phone with the ICAC (institute of clean air companies) on Tuesday. This interview is a biggie.. for a job in DC which will hopefully pay as much as the living expenses for the area. Most of the time the people who work there are MIT and Harvard grads- the big engineer people. I'm a lowly Hood grad with an Environmental background going for an analyst position for one of the leading providers of air monitoring equipment in the world.
  • On Friday I have an interview with Aarcher- an environmental consulting firm in Annapolis. Much better shot getting this temp to hire position, but will most likely live at home until the hiring full time actually happens. Good company though.
  • I have been a lazy kenniekat who rarely gets dressed, barely leaves the house, and needs alot of prompting before spending any money or gas.
  • Cabin feaver after 4 monthes gives way to slight depression and the consumption of boredome foods while not really exercising... I actually miss Hood Aquatics right now.
  • Isolation is semi self imposed, as I cant afford to go out to where people are, and have started to become irritated with people in general- including myself. Maybe I should just become a hermit and live in a cabin away from everyone and mope.
  • I have given up dating for the time being til I figure out where/when I'm working. No point in trying to date when jobless, frugal, and still trying to figure out where I'm living. Will gladly go on any blind dates if people want however.

Kennie Kat Quits Kraft

If any of you have been following my blog or have talked to me in the past twenty four hours, you will know that I had been put in a position that could not continue by the Kraft corporation. Apparently, unlike what was advertized, everything for all of my trips with the company were to be expensed. As I am still a poor college grad- all of these expenses could not be covered and the job would actually bankrupt me by the second week- I would be making less than I was spending. I have determined that in order to keep my sanity and not have another mental breakdown I should withdraw my application. I refuse to work for a company that is not ready for new employees, especially when the employees financial and mental health is on the line.

Money Money Money- Its so funny, or why I hate making travel arrrangements via phone

Okay, so since Friday I have been trying to make my travel arrangements for Chicago for this next week. Only this next one, the rest I'll make when I'm out there and actually know whats going on. Until this morning its been the whole I make travel arrangments, get no email, call, learn that someone cancelled, remake the travel arrangements, get no email, call, learn that my previous arrangements actually went through with another department of american express travel and will get an email shortly, cancel the second arrangements, get no email, check personal debit card- realize that southwest is charging $377 for the cancelled flights (even though only one $100 flight was non refundable), call- finally get someone who knows what the hell they are talking about, get confirmation finally on the flight and hotel plans, learn that southwest is reimbursing me for the $377 charge (thank god), and finally get the email. Sigh. Needless to say as soon as I can I'm booking everything else on my own via the american express kraft travel site. This whole taking almost a full week to book drove me nuts.
Oh- and I dont get $60/day per diem for food- I get to expense it. Which sucks ass cause I'd be getting at least an extra $20/day. But apparently its illegal to charge for lodging and not for food. Its either per diem for both or expense it for both. But it could be worse, if I had to expense it, I'd have to pay out of pocket for all travel stuff. C'est la vie. I need to finish packing and start cleaning up around here. I'd rather leave a halfway clean room and bathroom to come home to than a crappy messy one.

On the plus side I get to expense my long term parking!

So today I did the lovely thing called taking a typing test (58wpm and 99% accuracy) and shopping. Huzzah for Wally-world. I didn't get anything special, besides clearing out some of their stock of polos, but I got the little things that I needed for travel. Yesterday Mom and I made a killing at Geoffry Bean- everything in the store was at least 50% off... so I ended up getting close to $300 of clothing for $137. And my new shoes from Bass were 30% off too.

As for making the travel arrangements- apparently the Kraft people are not very forthcoming on how we are to work things out. I need details like what nights of the hotel are they paying for, what time should I book my flights home, how's the car situation working, etc. So far Kelly (whom I'm hired by) and us traveling employees are highly confused. Oh well, hopefully everything will work out today, and I'll book the flight tomorrow!

Kennie Kat gets the Job

So as some of you may or may not know, I just got hired today. Huzzah for working with Kraft foods. I get the cool job of auditing all of the Nabisco bakeries that are in the country- traveling from one to the other until all SOPs are done. First stop is Chicago- the windy city (and I believe Ritz crackers but I'm not sure). I start on the 2nd... and fly out the 1st. It will be a long year of airports... does anyone know of a good weekly lot for BWI or Philly? I'm really excited and can't wait to start!
